About Us

Indigenous Healing at Loakin

At Up the Hill at Loakin Botanicals, healing is not a metaphor—it’s a lived tradition. Our products are authentic Indigenous medicines and cultural tools, crafted with ancestral knowledge passed down through generations of Secwepemc healers. We don’t adapt tradition—we continue it.

This page shares the deeper meaning behind our work, offering insight into Indigenous medicine, our harvesting practices, and how our remedies support holistic wellness

Our Legacy

Founder, CEO, and Chief Herbalist June Anthony-Reeves comes from a long line of Indigenous medicine women. Her knowledge of harvesting and crafting herbal medicines was taught by her mother and great-grandmother, and is now shared with her daughter, Crystal.

The name Up the Hill at Loakin honors the land where June’s parents were raised—“Loakin” (pronounced “LLew oyken” or “LLoy ka”)—and where she spent her childhood picking berries, playing, and swimming. That land continues to inspire every product we create.

What Is Indigenous Medicine?

Indigenous medicine is a holistic system of healing used by Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years. It is:

  • Grounded in relationships with land, plants, energy, and spirit
  • Shared through oral teachings, family practice, and ceremony
  • Focused on balance—between body, heart, mind, spirit, community, and environment

Our products are not inspired by these systems—they are Indigenous medicine. From wild-harvesting on our traditional territory to ceremonial preparation, and ethical sourcing, every aspect reflects Secwepemc ways of knowing and healing.

In addition to ancestral Secwepemc teachings, our founder has completed formal training in Western herbalism with a certified medical herbalist. This dual foundation allows us to honor traditional healing while understanding how it intersects with modern herbal science.

How Our Products Support Wellness

Our teas, salves, mists,, creams and ceremonial tools are used to:

  • Encourage emotional and spiritual clarity
  • Support rest, wellness, grounding, and seasonal transitions
  • Participate in cleansing and cultural rituals

These uses are affirmed by community practice and lived experience—not by Western biomedical systems.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

We harvest respectfully—giving thanks, never taking more than we need, and always leaving enough for future generations. Our products are vegan, nut-free, and made with non-GMO ingredients. We source ethical ingredients.  Eco-sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a responsibility.

Statement of Transparency

To comply with digital and regulatory standards, we offer this clarification:

“Our products are authentic Indigenous medicines and cultural tools. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease as defined by modern medical frameworks. They are crafted using ancestral knowledge to support holistic and cultural wellness.”
