By Up the Hill Inc.
At Up the Hill Inc., our work is not separate from our way of living. Ceremony, prayer, gratitude, and indulgence are not practices we set aside for special occasions — they are the rhythm of our days. From gathering herbs to speaking with customers, from processing blends to sharing meals with friends and family, this is a way of living for us. It is the foundation of our company, rooted not only in daily practice but also in Indigenous knowledge and culture carried forward from my mother and great‑grandmother. Their teachings guide how we honor the earth, our community, and ourselves.
Gathering Herbs — Ceremony in the Field
When we gather herbs, we do not simply harvest. We pause, we offer prayers, and we give thanks to the land and plants for offering themselves to us. Each leaf, each flower, each root is received as a gift. Gathering becomes ceremony — a moment of connection between earth and hand, between plant and purpose.
Ceremonial note: As we collect, we whisper gratitude: “Thank you for your medicine that you offer to us and for the people who will use this. The herbs carry not only their natural essence, but also the prayers we offer.
Processing Blends — Prayer in the Work
Processing herbs into teas, salves, or kits is not mechanical; it is prayerful. Each blend is stirred with intention, each jar filled with care. We see this work as a continuation of ceremony — transforming raw gifts into offerings that carry meaning.\
Talking to Customers — Gratitude in Connection
Every conversation with a customer is an exchange of gratitude. We listen, we share, we honor their stories. Customers are not transactions; they are companions in ceremony. Gratitude flows both ways — for their trust, for their curiosity, for their willingness to walk this path with us.
Ceremonial note: Each interaction is an offering: Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey.”
Being with Friends and Family — Indulgence in Community
Our lives are not only about work. They are about laughter, meals, and shared rituals with friends and family. Indulgence is sacred celebration — chocolate savored slowly, strawberries shared at the table, baths infused with herbs. These moments remind us that joy is part of wellness, and that community is the heart of ceremony.
Ceremonial note: As we gather, we offer gratitude for the bonds that sustain us. Indulgence becomes prayer, reminding us that love is abundant.
This Is a Way of Living
This is a way of living for us. Ceremony in gathering, prayer in processing, gratitude in connection, indulgence in community. At Up the Hill Inc., these practices are not separate — they are the foundation of our work, our relationships, and our way of being. That foundation is also deeply rooted in Indigenous knowledge and culture, passed down through generations of medicine women in my family. The wisdom of my mother and great‑grandmother continues to guide our ceremonies, our offerings, and the way we walk gently with the earth.
We invite you to join us in this way of living. May your days be prayers, your nights be gratitude, and your moments be indulgence. May your life itself be ceremony.
