Rooted in the rhythms of the land and the wisdom of the season
Every fall, when the wind begins to whisper and the leaves turn to flame, my grandmother would reach for her basket of herbs. She didn’t call it “immune support.” She called it “a cup of protection.”
At Up the Hill Inc., we carry that same rhythm forward. In Secwepemc tradition, fall is a time to listen, prepare, and strengthen. The land offers us everything we need—if we know how to ask gently.
This season, we’re blending a simple immune tea using five powerful herbs from the Thompson-Okanagan region. Each one carries its own story, its own medicine, and its own way of caring for the body.
The Herbal Allies
Yarrow – The guardian of the meadows. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, yarrow helps soothe fevers and clear congestion.
Wild Rose Hips – Bright red and full of vitamin C, rose hips strengthen the immune system and bring a gentle sweetness to the blend. Be sure to remove the fine hairs inside the hips—they can irritate the throat if left in.
Goldenrod – Often misunderstood, goldenrod supports the respiratory system and helps the body release what it no longer needs.
Pine Needles – Rich in vitamin C and flavonoids, pine needle tea has long been used to support lung health and immunity.
Stinging Nettle – A mineral-rich powerhouse that nourishes the blood and calms inflammation.
How to Blend Your Immune Tea
- Gather your herbs – dried or fresh, wildcrafted or purchased with care.
- Use 2 teaspoons per cup of water—this is a medicinal dose, stronger than the typical 1 tsp used for off-the-shelf pleasure teas.
- Steep in hot water for 10–15 minutes, covered to preserve the volatile oils.
- Strain carefully, especially if using rose hips, and serve with a touch of honey or maple syrup if desired.
- Drink daily during the fall season, especially when the air turns cold and the body feels vulnerable.
🧡 A Ritual of Care
This isn’t just tea. It’s a ritual. A way to gather your family around the fire, to share stories, and to remind each other that healing begins with rhythm.
When you blend this tea, you’re not just protecting your body—you’re honoring the land, the season, and the teachings that have carried us through generations.

Absolutely, June—here’s a shorter, heart-centered disclaimer written in Up the Hill Inc. language:
⚠️ A Note on Safety & Care
Our herbal tea is meant to support wellness, not replace medical advice. Always check with a healthcare provider—especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or managing health conditions.
For children, use only herbs known to be safe, and follow age-appropriate doses. Some plants—like rose hips—need extra care (remove the hairs). When in doubt, ask a trusted herbal practitioner.
We believe healing begins with rhythm, respect, and relationship. That includes how we prepare and share our medicine.
